Minecraft Pocket Edition today, Minecraft 1.0 tomorrow

Minecraft has been a hit for so long it’s hard to imagine that it hasn’t even seen an official release yet. Notch’s world-building game gets official with a 1.0 release tomorrow, but Pocket Edition is available right now.

Minecraft Pocket Edition

The Xperia Play, Sony Ericcson’s dedicated game controls-sporting handset, has had Minecraft Pocket Edition for a few months now and it expanded to other Android handsets a few weeks ago, but it is now available for iOS. The App Store version is a universal app, so one purchase grants access on iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad for $6.99. The downside to this version is that it is basically an equivalent of the classic version that is free on PC. Creative mode is all that’s here, so no survival or combat to be had–no mining either.

The other big news is that Minecraft leaves beta and gets elevated to version 1.0 tomorrow. This rolls-up all recent additions and officially end the 25 percent off sales period. As of this post, you have one more day to get in on the discounted deal. If you already own the game, you can download the 1.0 release candidate right now (direct link).

This all coincides with the first Minecon, the official convention for Minecraft.
