Lip-reading Kinect rumored to be bundled with next Xbox

The rumors surround next generation console hardware continues to fly fast and furious. The latest point to a souped up Kinect that can do much more than track arm and leg movement.

Eurogamer reports that Kinect 2 will no longer be relegated to peripheral status and will offer a lot more definition to the curent iterations capabilities. On the technical front, it will purportedly be sensitive enough to read lips, read players’ emotions, and determine which way the person in question is facing.

The source states that since the current Kinect has to operate through USB, its capabilities are limited by bandwidth concerns. The unidentified source told Eurogamer, “It can be cabled straight through on any number of technologies that just take phenomenally high res data straight to the main processor and straight to the main RAM and ask, what do you want to do with it?”

This is just the latest in a long line of next-generation-related rumors. There is little doubt that Microsoft would like to maintain the mainstream momentum it has gained through the Kinect, so making it an integral part of the next box makes sense. Recent rumors pointing towards another generation of a dual offering of expensive and cheaper hardware also make this a more likely possibility.

Unrelated to this particular rumor, we have used one of the best CG next Xbox fan mockups around–Kinect built-in and all. This concept piece was created by Joseph Dumary of Yanko Design. Be sure to check out their cool PS4 mockup from July as well.
