Nintendo Network announced, unifying infrastructure to bring personal accounts to Wii U

Nintendo’s fiscal 2012 Q3 financials revealed that the company is struggling in a way it hasn’t in a long time. While the fiscal results were the focus of the report, some other details regarding the company’s future online plans also made it in.

The forthcoming unifying online platform will be called Nintendo Network, and it is set to introduce personal accounts for the Wii U allowing individual family members to have a personalized experience on the same console.

Nintendo Network is set to offer a number of online systems including the “community feature” first seen in Mario Kart 7, DLC support, full game downloads, online play, communication options, and more. The new service will also serve as a unified platform for both the Wii U and 3DS.

Timing has not been set for the roll out of Nintendo Network, but it will hopefully hit close to the launch of the Wii U.
