Infinity Blade Dungeons bringing Unreal-powered dungeon crawling to iPad

Apple announced the new iPad on Wednesday. The new tablet is again receiving a performance boost, but the big new feature this time around is a 2048×1536 resolution screen, and as is the norm with recent Apple hardware announcements, games received a chunk of time during the event.

Epic Games was on stage to announce the latest entry into its iPad-exclusive series Infinity Blade. The new title, Infinity Blade Dungeons, is a departure for the franchise. Unlike the first two titles, Dungeons eschews the third-person hack-and-slashing for isometric hack-and slashing. If the Nintendo classic Punch-Out! was the inspiration for the first two games, Diablo plays muse to the third.

Infinity Blade: Dungeons is a loot-driven dungeon crawler set before the forging of the Infinity Blade. Little is known about the title outside of the gameplay, but at the very least it should serve as yet another technical showpiece for the Unreal Engine on mobile from Epic Games. Although Epic subsidiary Chair Entertainment created the franchise and led development on the first two Infinity Blade titles, its name is nowhere to be found here.

Infinity Blade: Dungeons is slated as “Coming Soon” for iOS.
