Unreal Engine 4 finally makes public debut

We got out first glimpse at the Unreal Engine 4 earlier this year after it was shown behind closed doors at GDC 2012. The same demo that was on display to a select few in March is now available to all.

GameTrailers has the exclusive on the reveal, and with it comes two videos. The first is a classic engine showcase video (above), and the latter (below) is a 10 minute walkthrough of a few of the ins-and-outs of the technology at play in Unreal Engine 4 with Epic’s Sr. Technical Artist Alan Willard.

Lighting and particle systems, along with streamlined workflows and in-editor rendering seem to be among the biggest points of focus for this latest iteration of Epic’s market-standard engine. The demo seen above was shown at E3 behind closed doors running on a Nvidia GTX 680. Epic says the first games to utilize the new engine will not start hitting until 2013 at the earliest.
