Final Fantasy VII PC re-release ‘coming soon’

Final Fantasy VII is easily the most popular entry in the Final Fantasy franchise and thus has received the greatest degree of rumor-mongering with regards to a remake/re-release in past years. Those rumors have finally panned out with a new PC version of the game, complete with achievements, cloud saves, and a “character booster” feature that seems to add Game Genie-like functionality. The minimum system requirements are relatively low, necessitating years old specs at the very least:

Minimum System Requirements:

• Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 (32/64-bit)

• 2GHz Processor or faster

• 1GB RAM

•DirectX 9-compatible graphic card

Square-Enix’s splash page for the game also indicates that it’s headed exclusively to the SQUARE ENIX Store, meaning most Steam-minded PC gamers will have to jump through an inconvenient hoop to get some classic console-gaming nostalgia. Pricing and date of availability of FFVII PC are conspicuously absent, so keep an eye out on Square’s website for coming details.
