Valve shares Steam plans for Linux

Valve’s Linux Team has just launched a new blog, which first and foremost reveals that Valve has an interest in Linux. According to the first post, Valve has been curious about Linux development for a while now and has purportedly ported a relatively stable build of Left 4 Dead 2 to Ubuntu 12.04. Their focus in the near future is plainly listed:

  • getting the Steam client onto Linux with full functionality
  • optimizing a version of L4D2 running at a high frame rate with OpenGL
  • porting additional Valve titles

In the interest of open source, Valve is also planning to solicit ideas and comments in the near future with regards to their progress. If you’re an Ubuntu die-hard (or simply don’t like paying license fees for Windows), keep an eye out on this new blog as details roll in.
