Final Fantasy XIV to relaunch as ‘A Realm Reborn’

Final Fantasy XIV hasn’t exactly done well fro Square Enix. Is wasn’t quite the follow-up to Final Fantasy XI that fans had hoped for, and even it’s creators admitted that mistakes were made. In an effort to right previous wrongs, Square Enix is relaunching the game, and version 2.0 is being rebranded Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Not much is known about what all is new with this relaunched version of FF XIV, but here are some excerpts about what Square Enix has to say about it:

Previously referenced as “version 2.0,” this title has been rebuilt from the ground up, and centers on the core concept of rebirth, featuring a new world to explore and storyline to experience.

“Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new FINAL FANTASY XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the FINAL FANTASY series. I hope you’re looking forward to it!” said Naoki Yoshida, Producer/Director of FINAL FANTASY XIV.

This seems like a strange move with current state of MMOs in flux, especially considering FF XIV was never very popular to begin with. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is set to launch on PS3 and PC later this year.
