Capcom announces Remember Me at Gamescom 2012

Gamescom, the biggest by numbers gaming trade show of the year, has not brought a ton of big announcements, but Capcom is in attendance, and even had a brand new title to reveal.

Coming from new developer Dontnod, Remember Me has a long history. It was first revealed last year as a Sony title called Adrift. That relationship, and subsequently the game’s PlayStation 3 exclusivity, is no more, but Capcom has swept up the title, and that’s a good thing because it looks interesting.

Part Deus Ex, part Assassin’s Creed, and part Ghost Trick, Remember Me has a lot going for it. Set in a cyberpunk-style neo-future Paris, Remember Me follows protagonist Nilin in a world where memories can be altered, for better or worse. The seven minute demo (above) shown at Gamescom gives a good sense for the game’s combination of world traversal and puzzle solving, but the out-of-context story piece on display comes off as a little jarring and brutal. Despite seeming a little early, the demo is well worth a look.

Remember Me has been in development for four years, and has just under a year left before its May 2013 release window on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
