C&C: Generals 2 to be free-to-play, no single player at launch

It may have been a fairly quiet Gamescom this year, but that doesn’t mean there was no new information out of the show. EA took the oportunity to deliver some new announcements regarding the forthcoming return of the Command & Conquer franchise.

C&C: Generals 2 is now set to be a free-to-play game with a decidedly e-sports bent. Unfortunately, the free-to-play nature comes with word that there will be no single player campaign at launch. Competitive and cooperative skirmishes will serve as the core of the game, with other modes being added over time.

On the bright side, EA also discussed the possibility of expansion into other C&C universes including Red Alert and traditional Tiberium settings. A new Gamescom trailer shows what is in-store with C&C: Generals 2, and beta registration is open at the official site.
