Diablo III to add ‘Paragon System’

Diablo III has received some negative reaction over the past few months due to the simple reality that people’s expectations for a Blizzard game are astronomical. The real-money auction house seems to have implications far beyond simple economy, drawing even more people away after their requisite one or two runs through the game. Sometimes loot or more difficulty levels just aren’t enough to retain interest, which is something Blizzard is clearly trying to combat with the addition of the “Paragon System”.

The Paragon System layers a whole new 100 levels on top of the level 60 cap. Progression should continue naturally as it did between 59 and 60, for instance, meaning that players can still reap rewards while hunting down particularly rare loot. The levels will grant more attribute points as well as a 3% boost in magic and gold find. Blizzard’s intent is evident in one major statement -

The time to reach the upper Paragon levels approximates the long-term time investment required to get a level 99 character in Diablo II.

Nothing is sure to catch fans attention than invoking the hardcore appeal of the Diablo II, meaning that Blizzard is taking long-term support for Diablo III quite seriously.
